30 Days of Gratitude: Day 16

What ‘About Your Body’ am I Grateful for Today?

EVERYTHING! Wow, my body has never let me down. A successful career in professional dance followed by the ability to create 2 beautiful children, and now the ability to move and breathe through my practice…what a gift. I thank the universe every single day for this body of mine, and all of its ‘perfect’ imperfections’…a few loose ligaments in my hips from dance, a bit of lower back disc degeneration from my years of ballet, and a handful of stretch marks and battle wounds from making babies…ah well! All a testament to moments having truly LIVED.- Jennifer Allen

What ‘Season’ am I Grateful for Today?

Of course…SUMMER!!!! Summer in New Zealand is absolute paradise. It took me a while to acclimate to the reverse seasons having grown up in North America, and admittedly I was very skeptical of the kiwi beach Christmas, but I have grown to LOVE it. My parents are coming over from America at the peak of summer this year, I can’t wait to picnic on the beach with them and have a swim in the sea.- Jennifer Allen

30 Days of Gratitude: Day 14

What ‘Sight’ am I Grateful for Today?

I am grateful for the beauty of the land we live in- Aotearoa. Around every corner there is something spectacular to see! One of my favorite sights is the view of Rangitoto while I am walking along Takapuna Beach…it is massive, and so mysterious. It still amazes me that I get to live amongst this beauty and experience it every day, New Zealand is definitely nature’s playground.- Jennifer Allen

What 'Abilities' am I Grateful for Today?

Every morning I wake up so grateful for the ability to go to work in a job that is also my life's work, my passion, and a way of being for me. I am so grateful to offer others a platform for self- care, nourishment, and healing.- Jennifer Allen

30 Days of Gratitude: Day 12

What 'Texture' am I Grateful For?

As we all know, we are now entering one of the busiest times of the year, my most sacred space has to be my big, fluffy, super-king sized bed!! Most days I literally FALL into it at the end of a busy run of working and parenting, and in that moment there is nothing more divine then the feeling of my heavy cotton sheets and duvet as the cocoon me for my night's sleep...ahhhhhhh.- Jennifer Allen

30 Days of Gratitude: Day 11

What 'Holiday' am I Grateful For?

This 30 Days of Gratitude campaign was inspired by the traditional American Holiday Thanksgiving. It is one of the only holidays that is truly about family, feasting, and giving thanks. It is a day to reflect on the people and things in our life that surround us in joy and love. I truly hope you have been enjoying the opportunity to reflect on these joys this month thus far.- Jennifer Allen

30 Days of Gratitude: Day 10

What 'Taste' am I Grateful For?

I’m most grateful for my first sip of coffee in the morning. I only have one coffee a day and usually it’s a coffee served to me in bed by my husband. That first sip is so many things to me, the kind gesture of another human being lovingly getting up first to make the coffee, it’s the precious family time spent together on our bed as the sun rises in the morning, it’s the taste of a brand new day with endless opportunities and it’s a reminder of the small things in life that can bring us the greatest joy. So yes, I am most grateful for the taste of my first sip of coffee, a ritual that reminds to practice bramacharya  everyday.- Sam Ford

What ‘Place’ am I Grateful for Today?

I am so grateful, every single day, for my second home- Jayayoga Studio. It is wear my heart lives and my passions lie, and the most amazing experience in the world is witnessing the transformation that takes place with my students, trainees, and teachers there. The energy is absolutely divine.- Jennifer Allen

30 Days of Gratitude: Day 8

What ‘Book’ am I Grateful for Today?

The book that lives on my bedside table beside my journal (I take LOTS of notes!) is ‘The Universe Has Your Back’ by Gabrielle Bernstein. The premise of the book is the work of transforming your energy from fear-based to love-based, and trusting that the universe will take care of the rest. Have your pens, journals, and highlighters at the ready for this one, a worthwhile read as part of your spiritual journey.- Jennifer Allen

30 Days of Gratitude: Day 7

What ‘Memory’ am I Grateful for Today?

I am grateful for all of the wonderful memories that I have of what I call my ‘past life.’ Even though it was this life, before I was a yoga teacher I was a professional dancer and music theater performer. Even though I have hung up my dance shoes, I am left with amazing memories of New York City and the glamorous life. I also have thousands of photos to look back on and reminisce.- Jennifer Allen

30 Days of Gratitude: Day 6

What ‘In Nature’ am I Grateful for Today?

No doubt in my mind…the SEA. In the words of Moana…’the sea calls me.’ Whether I am simply looking out at the water, dipping my toes in, or fully submerged over my head, I am always healed by the energy of the ocean. I have always lived near water, and here in NZ we are so lucky to be surrounded by the beauty of the sea.- Jennifer Allen

30 Days of Gratitude: Day 5

What ‘Sound’ am I Grateful for Today?

I gave this one quite a bit of thought, and the conclusion that I came to for today? The sound of SILENCE.  Because I am oftentimes either teaching or with my kiddos, I find that I use my voice almost all day! By the end of the day I absolutely savor those few moments either right before bed or early in the morning that I may sit silently in meditation. Silence actually IS golden!- Jennifer Allen

30 Days of Gratitude: Day 4

What ‘Food’ am I Grateful for Today?

I am so grateful for the beautiful veggies that are growing in my garden! I am a vegetarian, so having an abundance of home-grown veggies to pick and choose from allows me to prepare meals that are nourishing, healthy and varietal.- Jennifer Allen

30 Days of Gratitude: Day 3

What ‘Color’ am I Grateful for Today?

I am grateful for the rainbow of colors that make up the chakras. I have a corresponding crystal to stimulate each chakra, and one of my favorite practices at the moment is to lie in savasana with my crystals on my chakra points, and visualize each chakra as a colorful, spinning ball of luminous energy.- Jennifer Allen

Jayayoga: A Year in Review

I cannot believe that I am sitting here in my studio office writing this piece, as I reflect on the past year…where we were to where we are now. So much has happened, and so much to be grateful for! Lately I have been receiving daily photo reminders (thanks to Facebook!) of where we were this time last year…painting ceilings, building furniture, and racing around putting our final finishing touches on our space so that we were ready to open the doors.

Opening the doors to Jayayoga Studio was symbolic of so many things for me. After years of working out of other studios and spaces, it meant that Jayayoga NZ finally had a home. What began as ‘have yoga, will travel’ consisting of 20 branded orange bolsters and an armful of training manuals has now transformed into 135 square meters of nourishing energy, chocka full of props, tea and overflowing buckets of love. Every time I step into this space, I can feel myself ground. Even when we were in full fit-out mode and the space was covered in sawdust and hot pink paint (not sure what the previous tenants were thinking!) it still had prana. There was an energy here that I could feel from the first moment I walked in the door, a sense of arriving, of landing in a space that was prepared to hold me, my teachers, my students, and all that we brought to our mats.

Something truly beautiful has happened this year as I continually watch the doors to the studio swing open at class time. It took all of us a bit by surprise actually, the whole teaching staff. Of course, now that I look back on it I see without a shadow of a doubt that the universe provided us with exactly who and what we were meant to receive. Our message of ‘Safe, Sustainable Yoga’ reached a community of people that were ready for it! Ready for something different, not your average fitness-based yoga asana class. Every one of our students has come through the door with a story, a journey that has guided them to us for some unique and special purpose, as if we were the next stop on their lifelong quest toward realization of our own divine truth. Breath work, meditation, mindfulness, energy healing, crystals, oils, angel cards, the whole gamut of offerings on the table, all of which have been received with such gratitude from our amazing yogis. We are so very grateful to each and every one of you who has stepped on to your mat at Jaya for trusting us with your precious divine energies, and allowing us to nurture them in all of the ways that we can.

I must also offer a very special word of gratitude to those who have continued throughout the year to support our weekend Community Class program. As many of you may know, the other side of Jaya is the school of teacher training that provides the opportunity for yogis to study and train under the methodology of ‘Safe, Sustainable Yoga.’ We have trained now over 70 teachers under the umbrella of Jayayoga, including the specialized staff of Senior Instructors that teach on the schedule throughout the week. Many of you may have noticed that our weekend timetable is quite light, with only 2 classes on the schedule. This is so that the studio space can be wide open most weekends to delicately transform our dedicated yogis and yoginis into the future of yoga teaching, so that by the end of their 7 or 10 month journey they are ready to sprinkle the messages of ‘safe, sustainable yoga’ into their own communities. Our Community Class program gives these yogis an opportunity during their training and in the early days of their post-graduate work to dip their toes into the teaching environment, under the supervision of a Senior Teacher. We participate in the class and then offer them feedback to continue to guide them on their path of learning. These $10 classes have been absolutely invaluable to our blossoming teachers, and again we are so grateful to those of you who continue to offer your support to these new yoga teachers.

As I look ahead into our future I see a wealth of exciting ventures ahead as our Jaya family continues to grow and flourish. We are only now 6 weeks away from our first official Jayayoga Studio field trip, where we will pack up our mats and head out to Mana Retreat Center for our ‘Spring Awakening Women’s Retreat.’ I cannot wait to nourish these amazing women through 3 days of absolute bliss, and send them home with a toolbox full of practices to implement directly into their day to day, as women, wives, mothers, partners, friends and coworkers, in all of the realms that we present ourselves as women, as goddesses, to our communities. Ladies…I have only a few spaces left, so it’s not too late to solidify your space!

We have also officially announced our 2018 200-Hour and 300-Hour Teacher Training dates! If you have ever thought of deepening your own experience of yoga as a practice, or pondered sharing the beautiful healing modalities of yoga with others, this course is for you! All courses are a monthly part-time commitment, and payment plans are available. I would love to train with you in 2018!

In addition to the retreat and training schedule, we will continue to serve our yoga community with a varietal timetable of classes and workshops to help guide you along your journey, so please do tell us if there is an area of study that is of particular interest to you, or a class time that you would like to see on the timetable. As the holidays fast approach we will look forward to spreading the messages of loving kindness and good cheer with you. Keep your eye out in the studio for our 2 very popular holiday events, ‘The 12 Days of Yoga’ and our 2nd Annual ‘Holiday Night Market.’

On behalf of the Jayayoga Studio Staff I know that I speak for all of us when I say Thank You, again, from the bottom of our hearts for your support as we spread our message of ‘Safe, Sustainable Yoga.’ We hope that we have played even a small role in helping to facilitate a platform for your experience of self-care, self-love, self-acceptance, self-nourishment, and self-healing.

Shanti,

Jennifer Allen

September Jayayoga Studio News from Jennifer Allen

As we approach the end of our third week since the opening of Jayayoga Studio, I can honestly say that I am beaming with pride, excitement, and a deep sense of contentment at what we have manifested in this community. Being fellow Birkenhead locals ourselves, my family and I have already reaped the sweet reward of connecting to our neighborhood vibe, and are now getting the opportunity to step back and watch as we stamp our imprint onto the streets of Birkenhead Village. I can’t decide whether it is the glistening views out of our windows during a sunny morning practice, or the stunning glow of candlelight in an evening meditation that mesmerize me more, but undoubtedly the space itself has beauty, charm, and a grounded energy that truly makes it feel like home. After nearly 2 years of Jayayoga functioning out of alternative yoga spaces, I can honestly say ‘There is no place like home.’

Our timetable of classes is varied enough to suit the needs of yogis from all walks of life, whether it be the busy executive, uni student, stay at home parent, or retiree, there is a time and a style that will work for you. All of our classes are open to all levels and capabilities, and our experienced Jayayoga Teaching Staff are incredible, and all trained under the Jayayoga syllabus.

Jayayoga September Promotion
Jayayoga Fundraiser Event

Jayayoga Studio is holding a fundraiser class on Sunday, September 4th at 9:30am to raise funds for New Beginnings Eco Retreat. This retreat was started by Natalie Stone (a fellow yoga teacher) and Bill Shearer (a local to the Birkenhead community) after a tragic driveway accident took the life of their 2-year old son. Now in the midst of their attempt to complete the retreat, Bill has been diagnosed with a stage 4 rare form of cancer. 100% of proceeds from this class with go directly toward helping Bill and Natalie complete New Beginnings. Please come and show your support!

Lastly, we have launched the dates for our 2017 Level 1 (200-Hour) and Level 2 (300-Hour) Teacher Trainings! Our training courses are safe and accessible, and can be used as a deepening of one’s own yoga journey, or as a platform for teaching. There are a final few spaces left on our last intake for 2016 as well, beginning September 30th. Click here to register your interest!

Hope to see you on your mat very soon!
